Nmoto Nostalgia is based on the current BMW R Nine T, a bike that claims an unbroken evolutionary chain of DNA from the earliest of BMW motorcycles, including the legendary R7. Fitted with nearly 100 handcrafted pieces, each Nostalgia is a masterstroke of craftsmanship.


The Nmoto Nostalgia is a modern execution of one of the most iconic machines in history – the 1934 BMW R7 Prototype, considered by many to be the Mona Lisa of motorcycles. The Nostalgia has been painstakingly designed to evoke the R7’s graceful lines while being supremely capable for today’s conditions.


Each Nostalgia has its own handbuilt, non-stamped body. Panels are handmade with a wooden frame, as they should be, using an English wheel and power hummer. These are not simply one-off custom bikes, they are original production motorcycles born from state-of-the-art technology and traditional old-fashioned craftsmanship. Using CNC machinery for milling, laser work and engraving, each Nostalgia is fitted with 96 individual pieces constructed primarily of aircraft-grade aluminum – the vast majority of which are built by us in our workshop. Additionally, the all-new gas tank, throttle system, fender mounts, brackets and wires attest to the meticulous attention to detail involved in the building of each Nostalgia.


Created in SolidWorks and Autodesk Fusion 360, the Nostalgia took several years to design and perfect by Nmoto’s team of engineers who have backgrounds in the aircraft, automobile and motorcycle industries. Original points are used to fasten the body to the frame and a special rod has been created for the rear fender, requiring special modification to the rear sub-frame. The BMW R Nine T factory powertrain and 1170cc boxer motor have been left untouched. As a result of Nostalgia being lighter in weight than a stock R Nine T, this means speeds of up to 140mph are possible.


We at Nmoto believe the primary pleasure in motorcycle ownership is in riding, which is why the Nostalgia was created. With the comfortable suspension and unique steering mechanisms encased in a canonical design, the Nostalgia gives enthusiasts a slice of the past without sacrificing performance or rider experience.  Modern technology also provides more power and maneuverability so riders get the best of both worlds – Art Deco design with contemporary reliability. Beyond being beautiful and wholly distinct, the Nostalgia is practical and comfortable
enough to ride every day.

Unveiled in 1934, the BMW R7 was a motorcycle ahead of its time both conceptually and practically. Despite the futuristic appeal of its sleek design, the R7’s high manufacturing costs kept it from ever seeing mass production. It wasn’t until 2005, when the original prototype was uncovered and showcased at Pebble Beach that the world truly came to appreciate this innovative design. Valued at over $1 million, this original R7 is the stuff of collectors’ and motorcycle enthusiasts’ dreams.

Among those to appreciate the BMW R7 was team at NMOTO. Taking inspiration from the past, NMOTO then launched the Nostalgia Project, an ambitious and successful attempt to join old designs with current technology. By utilizing modern materials and traditional manufacturing methods, NMOTO was able to create a lighter and more powerful final product.

    BMW R7
    The first and only BMW R7 prototype is introduced. Shortly after, the project was closed and the R7 never saw mass production. The prototype was dismantled and stored for over 70 years, along with its blueprints. BMW instead chose to focus on more cost effective sports motorcycles, which were more affordable.
  • 2005
    When the BMW R7 prototype was uncovered in 2005, time and neglect had taken its toll. 70 percent of the motorcycle was still in decent condition, many of the parts were damaged by rust; the electric battery caused serious corrosion of the steel. Restoration was an expensive, long-term project, but BMW was resilient
  • 2007
    The Legacy Reborn
    Two years later in 2007 restoration of the BMW R7 was completed: all parts were obtained or reconstructed. The prototype was painted in BMW’s signature black, with white pinstripes added later.
  • 2012
    “Best-in-Class” at Pebble Beach
    The BMW R7 won best-in-class in the motorcycle category at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The award was received by Karl Baumer, Head of BMW Group Classic.
  • 2017
    The Legend, Reimagined
    NMOTO, a motorcycle manufacturing company located in South Florida, begins to reimagine the iconic design, seeking to bring it into the modern era. They deem these efforts “The Nostalgia Project.”

    The Nostalgia Project Unveiled
    The Nostalgia Project is a limited production R Nine T in the style of an R7 with handcrafted components created in-house. Working with two world-renowned designers, NMOTO developed a motorcycle which perfectly captures the spirit of the Art Deco era while maintaining affordability.
